many people voted for his budget? zero. no one voted for his budget. paul ryan and i are going to get america on track to have a balanced budget. he took on -- during his campaign, another big promise. he said he would save medicare. he would pre serve and it protect it and save it from pending insolvency. in stead he cut medicare by $716 billion. he said he was going to have unemployment today down to 5.4%. we're nine million jobs short of that and he has no plan to get this economy going again to put americans to work. you notice there's some numbers he doesn't speak about. he doesn't use the number, 47. that happens to be how many million people are on food stamps today. 15 million more than than when he took office. he doesn't use the number 23 million. that's the number of people struggling to find a good job in this country. the president doesn't have a plan. he is out of ideas. he is out of excuses, and this november florida is going to make sure we put him out of office. at least one more time. paul ryan is here today. that says it all. both campaigns know that this is a very competitive state to the end. the suburbs are the key areas. make this point before i throw it back to you, 1.3 million people have already voted in the state of colorado. i talked to is the secretary of state today, he says that's probably about half of the electorate and says you can still vote until tomorrow. more than 50% of the votes will be cast before election day and they're already starting to count them. we were watching that process in downtown denver. >> are we getting any indication on how the independent voters are moving right now? >> reporter: it's a critical question because this state is roughly evenly divided between democrats, republicans, independents or unaffiliated voters. if you look at our poll, our poll shows a dead heat. and 49% of the independents go for president obama and joe biden, 47% go for governor romney and paul ryan. moderate voters who tend to live in the suburbs, many of them independents, 60% for the president to 38% for governor romney. if you'

to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdiction. that's from his spokesman, ryan williams. is this a problem for him, susan? >> well, i think it becomes an issue for him because of what he said in that primary debate that john king moderated where he was asked specifically about fema. he said anything that the federal government does that can be transferred to the states are better yet to the private sector. that's the right direction. so it leaves open the question of exactly what role he sees for fema. fema has been a controversial agency such as their delivery of services after katrina. however it's pretty popular when it comes in and helps and picks up the costs in the aftermath of disasters like this one. so i think it's a question that i would expect governor romney feel that he needs to say some words about. maybe today about what role he would see for the federal government for fema if he were president in natural disasters like this one. >> all this goes back to what mitt romney said in one of the early primary debates. i want to play that now. >> every time you h

. governor romney, together with paul ryan has put forward an economic recompry plan consisting of five central elements that will in four years create 12 million jobs. as you know, there are many people who take exception to that. he goes on to list those five elements. i'll do them in a nutshell, achieve north american energy independence, retrain the workforce for jobs now, make trade work for america, restore fiscal sanity, we'll champion small business. can this, in fact, in four years, you believe, decree aeight 12 million jobs? and i'll warn you, ali velshi is going to say no possible way. go ahead. >> well, we don't have to guess. we can look when ronald reagan had a recession, which had double digit inflation, 20% interest rate, in many ways much more devastating, higher unemployment, much more devastating than the one that obama has, when you went out three years plus, the same length of time that obama's had since we've been in technical recovery, the economy grew 20%. obama has grown 7%. a third the strength of reagan's. job creation much higher under reagan. what did reagan
